a woman, or a force personified as a woman, who is the source of inspiration for a creative artist.

synonyms: inspiration, creative influence, stimulus; formal afflatus
“the poet’s muse”

So .. first we need to let go of the gender reference (since we have long moved past the concept that all artists are men and all muses are women) & then we can get back to our inquiry.

What or who is your inspiration … or do you go it on your own, no muse in sight?

We all have an abundance of inspiration if we are open to it … even if there is no one in sight to inspire you forward … you can BE YOUR OWN MUSE! I find, with the artists I work with, that once they uncover the muse in themselves they can tap into the wealth of inspiration that is inside them and all around them. It literally is a well that never runs dry.

Take this on for one day … look at everything in your life as a source of inspiration … your partner, your dog/cat/goldfish, nature, dirty dishes, a storm, a fight with the boss .. no matter what it is … look for the inspiration in it.  At the end of the day reflect on all of the inspiration you very given and if you choose then take this exercise on for another day, then another …

Bonus on this little exercise is to allow yourself to just jot down notes on the various moments of inspiration you have throughout the day (or at least at the end of the day).   In those notes are the thoughts  that can become your next painting, photo exhibit, song, dance piece …

If you are willing to let anyone and anything be your muse you will discover that YOU are the muse … it is a few layers deep perhaps but the discovery is right there waiting to happen.

What has Your MUSE been trying to inspire you with that you have not even been aware of?  Please feel free to share with me/us.  I love hearing from you …
